iLands How To
Learn iLands.
One step at a time.
Clear guides for the tools you use to observe, map and understand the land. Watch an app example, then follow the steps at your own pace.
GIS files
Import and export GeoPackage
Choose supported feature collections, inspect the imported dataset and export a complete package for the next handoff.
Watch & follow →Import and export Vector GeoPDF
Vector GeoPDF combines drawn map features with geographic context. Review supported candidates before importing.
Watch & follow →Import and export Raster GeoPDF
Use a geographically positioned map image as a reference. Its pixels do not automatically become editable features.
Watch & follow →Environmental layers
Turn on Fire Weather Index
Fire Weather Index describes weather-related fire conditions. It is a different signal from an agency-reported active fire.
Watch & follow →Check weather near monitored lands
The weather at a remote field site may differ from the weather beside your phone. Start with the saved site coordinates.
Watch & follow →Explore Species at Risk map context
Use the Critical Habitat (SARA Status) layer for published species and habitat context. The app does not have a separate SARA-only toggle.
Watch & follow →Explore Critical Habitat
Compare a recorded site with the published Critical Habitat layer, then consult the corresponding official recovery documents.
Watch & follow →Explore Boreal Caribou Range
The range layer supplies landscape context. It does not track individual animals or establish current occupancy.
Watch & follow →View Active Wildfires
Show agency-reported fire points and inspect their source and timing. A point is different from a complete fire perimeter.
Watch & follow →Explore the national wetlands layer
Compare your own field records with publicly supplied wetlands map context.
Watch & follow →Forms
Build and share a mapped form
Create your questions, choose which map belongs with each response and invite existing iLands users to answer.
Watch & follow →Choose and configure form questions
Use the answer control that fits the information needed, with clear labels and guidance.
Watch & follow →Field cameras
Add and maintain field cameras
Register the exact camera, record its deployment and separate inventory, image delivery and shared viewing.
Read the guide →Set camera direction
A deployment facing supplies context for the map and approximate lateral movement suggestions.
