How to register field cameras in iLands
Bring your Reconyx camera images into your field workflow. Register your camera, set up image forwarding, and confirm its first delivery.
Two parts. One connected camera.
Activate your cellular camera with Reconyx first. Then register it in iLands and configure Reconyx to forward its images. The camera becomes Connected in iLands only after iLands successfully receives an image.

Before you start
- Install iLands on your iPhone or iPad and sign in to the account that will own the camera record.
- Make sure your iLands account can add cameras. If your free access has ended, follow the in-app subscription prompt. Eligible accounts with organization-provided access keep their existing access.
- Have the camera's exact serial number ready. Use the number on the camera or in Reconyx camera details, rather than a nickname.
- For automatic delivery, use a Reconyx cellular camera with active cellular service, a Reconyx account, and access to image-forwarding settings. Reconyx activation and cellular fees are separate from the iLands subscription.
- Have the deployment coordinates ready, and connect your iPhone or iPad to the internet to finish registration and verify delivery.
Registering a non-cellular camera? Skip Reconyx activation and image forwarding. Choose Non-Cellular in iLands to create an inventory record for a camera whose images you retrieve manually from its SD card. This does not enable automatic uploads or cellular heat mapping.
Activate the camera with Reconyx
Install RECONYX Connect, sign in, and follow its Add Camera process. Complete camera setup and pairing, then choose the Reconyx service and billing options you need. Follow your model's hardware instructions for power, antenna, and SD card.
Before continuing, confirm that the camera can deliver a new image to Reconyx Connect. This confirms that its activation and cellular connection are working.
Manufacturer reference: HyperFire 2 cellular setup manual. Use the manual for your exact model. Reconyx's own-SIM configuration wizard is a separate, direct-email workflow; Reconyx says it cannot use Reconyx Connect.
Open Add Camera in iLands
- Select Field Cameras in iLands' bottom navigation.
- On a compact iPhone layout, tap More Camera Actions (…), then Add Camera. On wider layouts, tap +. If your list is empty, you can also tap its Add Camera button.
- Read Before Adding a Camera at the top of the form. Keep the Reconyx setup values available for step 5.
Return to this guide anytime using Read iLands camera connection instructions in the Field Cameras screen or Add Camera form.

Enter the camera details
Choose Cellular for automatic image delivery from Reconyx, or Non-Cellular for inventory only.
Camera Name
Enter a useful name, such as North Trail Camera. Required.
Serial Number
Enter the exact camera serial number. It must match the number attached to images from Reconyx. Required.
Location Name (Optional)
Enter a familiar deployment name.
Under Location, either tap Use My Current Location while standing at the camera and allow location access, or enter Latitude and Longitude in decimal degrees.
Latitude must be between −90 and 90; longitude between −180 and 180. Western longitudes are negative. Enter both coordinates together, or leave both blank if the location is not yet known. Add optional deployment notes under Notes.
The current-location button uses your iPhone or iPad's location. If you are setting up the camera from your office, enter the deployment coordinates manually.

Save the camera
Tap Save Camera. After a successful online save, iLands returns you to the camera list. A new cellular camera initially shows Not Connected: registration creates the record, but does not yet prove image delivery.
Saving offline? iLands can save the record on this device and queue synchronization. Reconnect and allow synchronization to finish before checking forwarding. A record saved only on your device cannot yet receive images in the cloud.
Camera Already Exists? Check the serial number and existing name. Update Existing Camera replaces metadata while preserving its images and sharing records. Choose Cancel if you meant to add a different camera. A serial registered to another account cannot be claimed by adding it again; ask its owner to share access.
Set up image forwarding in Reconyx
Open the registered camera's image-forwarding configuration in Reconyx. Find Base URL (sometimes labelled Image Forward Base URL), API Id, and API Token. Menus can vary by version and account; if these fields are unavailable, ask Reconyx support to help locate or enable forwarding.
Base URL / Image Forward Base URLhttps://us-central1-ilandsapp.cloudfunctions.net/api/images
API IdiLandsApp
API Token
Use the current value shown in iLands under Add Camera → Before Adding a Camera → Reconyx setup fields.
Copy Base URL at the bottom of the Add Camera form copies the address for you. Owners can also find it in camera details while the camera is not connected. Use the full address exactly; do not append the serial number, another /images, or another suffix. Enter API Id and API Token in their separate fields.
Save the forwarding configuration. If Reconyx offers a connection-test action, run it. A successful test checks the setup; the iLands badge still waits for an image. Repeat these settings for each cellular camera you want to connect.
Confirm the first image
- Trigger a new image using your camera's supported capture method, or wait for its next scheduled capture and transmission.
- Confirm that the new image reaches Reconyx Connect.
- Return to Field Cameras in iLands and pull down to refresh.
- Look for Connected, then open the camera to confirm the new image appears.
The image is your confirmation. Delivery depends on capture and transmission settings, cellular coverage, connectivity, and service availability. The Connected badge records successful delivery; it does not guarantee that the camera is online at this instant.
Troubleshooting
Save Camera is disabled
Enter both Camera Name and Serial Number. Neither can be blank.
The coordinates are rejected
Enter both coordinates as decimal numbers within the permitted ranges, or clear both fields. Latitude is −90 to 90; longitude is −180 to 180.
I see a subscription prompt
Follow the in-app subscription flow to restore paid access. If your organization provides access and the prompt is unexpected, ask your administrator or iLands support to check your account.
My camera is saved locally or queued for synchronization
Reconnect your device and allow synchronization to retry. Cloud registration must finish before image delivery can be accepted.
The camera still says Not Connected
This is expected immediately after registration. Finish forwarding setup, send a new image, and refresh the camera list. A connection test alone does not change the badge.
The Reconyx connection test fails
Check all three forwarding fields against the current values in iLands. Remove accidental spaces, check letter case, and confirm forwarding is available for your Reconyx account.
Reconyx receives images, but iLands does not
Check that the exact serial number is registered in the correct iLands account and synchronized. Verify forwarding is saved for that camera and that the camera has not been deactivated or deleted in iLands. Then capture a new image and refresh.
Neither app receives a new image
Check camera power, SD card, activation, cellular coverage, and transmission settings with Reconyx.
The camera says Disconnected
If you own it and want to resume iLands delivery, open camera details and choose Camera Actions → Activate Camera. It waits for the next delivered image. Reconyx cellular service must also be active.
The serial number belongs to another account
Ask the owner to use Camera Actions → Share Camera Access. Accept the invitation under Pending Shared Camera Access on your Field Cameras screen. Do not register a duplicate.
Current location is unavailable
Enable location access for iLands in iOS Settings, or enter the deployment coordinates manually.
After registration
Open your camera to review images and update its location. New camera records start private to your account. Owners can invite collaborators through Camera Actions → Share Camera Access.
Deactivating a camera in iLands stops iLands accepting its delivered images. Manage Reconyx cellular plans and charges separately in Reconyx.
Need a hand?
For activation, cellular service, or Reconyx settings, contact Reconyx support. For iLands registration or missing delivered images, contact iLands. In your private support request, include your account email, camera model and serial number, the error shown, and your test image's time and time zone.
Do not include passwords, payment information, or API tokens.
